Mallorca, an outdoor destination all year round

One of Mallorca’s great advantages is its Mediterranean climate: over 300 days of sunshine a year and mild temperatures in autumn, winter and spring. This makes the island a perfect destination for hiking and trail running throughout the year.

The Mediterranean climate is one of contrasts, and each season has its own charm and character. Here’s a quick guide to help you discover the best time for hiking and trail running in Mallorca.

Spring (March – May): the prime season

Spring is probably the most beautiful season to visit Mallorca. After winter, the island slowly awakens, and the fields bloom with colour. Days get longer, temperatures become pleasant, and the light spring rains help prepare the island for the dry summer months.

  • Mild temperatures (15–25 °C). Occasional light rain.
  • Blooming landscapes: almond trees, poppies and green fields.
  • Perfect for long traverses and sea-view hikes.

– Many runners use this season to prepare for events like UTMB Mallorca or to train on our trail running tours.

Summer (June – September): heat and magical sunsets

Summer is the ideal season to enjoy swimming in the turquoise waters, watching sunsets, and walking through dry forests and canyons. Perfect for short routes combined with sea activities or cultural visits.

  • Long days, high temperatures (30 °C or more). No rain.
  • Not recommended to do long hikes at midday.
  • Perfect for sunrise or sunset hikes, with swims in hidden coves away from the crowds.

Autumn (October – November): perfect climate and fewer crowds

After the hottest months, the hiking and trail running season starts again. Temperatures drop slightly, the first autumn rains arrive, and the island turns green once more. October offers very pleasant conditions for mountain hikes—still in short sleeves, but without the summer heat.

  • Mild temperatures (18–25 °C). Occasional storms.
  • Less crowded trails after peak season.
  • Mediterranean forests at their best.

– This is the best season for advanced hiking in Mallorca and longer routes.

Winter (December – February): calm and authenticity

Few people know that the Mediterranean winter is mostly dry. Days are short but sunny, with blue skies and little rain. Mornings and evenings are cold, but the daytime is ideal for physical activity.

  • Cool temperatures (10–18 °C). Sunny blue skies.
  • Chance of snow on the highest peaks.
  • Peaceful atmosphere, perfect for discovering the island without tourists.

– A great time for a cultural hiking tour in Mallorca or to prepare personal trail running challenges.

Conclusión

There isn’t one single answer — each season offers a different experience. Spring and autumn are best for long, technical routes; winter is the hidden gem (and our favourite!); while in summer, the key is choosing the right time of day and route.
