This summer, S\u00f3ller Ben Amunt<\/strong> headed to one of the most remote and spectacular corners of the planet: northern Pakistan. A group of Mallorcans with a passion for adventure took part in this journey, our first trekking expedition in Pakistan. Over almost two weeks, we explored some of the wildest landscapes of the Karakoram, surrounded by glaciers, huge granite walls and some of the highest mountains on Earth.<\/p>\n\n\n

K2<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

The Karakoram and the great eight-thousanders<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Karakoram stretches across northern Pakistan and, together with the Himalayas, is home to some of the most impressive mountains on the planet. Five of the world’s fourteen eight-thousanders are found in this mountain range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And among them, one stands out above all: K2 (Chhogori, in the Balti language)<\/strong>, rising to 8,611 metres and the second-highest mountain on Earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But reaching the foot of K2 is no easy task. There are no roads or infrastructure providing easy access to this remote territory. To get there, you have to walk for days through an immense landscape, almost completely isolated from civilisation, following one of the great glaciers of the Karakoram.<\/p>\n\n\n

12 days on the Baltoro Glacier<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For 12 days of trekking<\/strong>, we followed the Baltoro Glacier, one of the longest mountain glaciers in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we progressed, the landscape became increasingly spectacular. The mountains appeared closer and closer, while enormous granite towers surrounded us on every side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our first major objective was Concordia<\/strong>, the point where the Baltoro and Godwin-Austen glaciers meet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Concordia is one of those places that is almost impossible to describe with words. We found ourselves surrounded by some of the most impressive mountains on the planet: the Gasherbrums, Broad Peak and, dominating the horizon, K2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After several days walking among glaciers and mountains, reaching Concordia was one of the defining moments of the journey.<\/p>\n\n\n

Gondogoro La: the great challenge<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

But the most demanding part of the trek was still ahead of us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gondogoro La<\/strong>, a mountain pass at more than 5,580 metres above sea level, was the great challenge before beginning our descent towards the Hushe Valley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Crossing the pass required effort, concentration and the ability to adapt to high-altitude conditions. After several days trekking above 4,000 metres, the fatigue was already making itself felt, but so was the desire to reach the highest point of our journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the pass, the reward was immense: an unforgettable high-mountain landscape and the feeling of having crossed one of the most remote regions of the Karakoram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From here, the descent began.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Little by little, the great mountains were left behind as we made our way through the Hushe Valley and gradually returned towards civilisation.<\/p>\n\n\n

An adventure that would not be possible without them<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A trek of this kind would not be possible without all the people who work behind the scenes to make every day in the mountains possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Porters, cooks, local guides and the entire Pakistani team<\/strong> were an essential part of the expedition. Day after day, they transported equipment, set up and dismantled the camps, prepared our meals and took care of all the details that make it possible to spend weeks trekking through such a remote environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond the mountains and landscapes, sharing the journey with them was also one of the great experiences we brought home with us.<\/p>\n\n\n

Nanga Parbat: one last gift<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

After completing the Baltoro and Gondogoro La trek, we still had one final stop before bringing the adventure to an end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On our way back to Islamabad, we travelled towards Nanga Parbat<\/strong>, known as the Killer Mountain<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At 8,126 metres, it is one of Pakistan’s great eight-thousanders and the only one of the country’s five that we had not seen during our trek through the Karakoram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We spent a few very different days there, at the foot of this immense mountain, surrounded by green and flower-filled meadows. A spectacular contrast to the glaciers, rock and barren landscapes of the Baltoro.<\/p>\n\n\n

Pakistan, an experience to remember<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

After many days of walking, sleeping in mountain camps, crossing glaciers and sharing countless hours on the trail, we returned home with our backpacks full of memories and experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pakistan surprised us with the sheer scale of its landscapes, its people and, above all, with the feeling of having experienced a genuine adventure far from civilisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An unforgettable experience for the whole group.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And we are already thinking about the next adventure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

S\u00f3ller Ben Amunt’s next trekking trip will take us to Nepal this November.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
